COMPILATION OF EVENTS, DECEMBER 1944
THE COMMANDING OFFICER
AUSTIN J. SHANNON, MAJOR, A.C.
Accompanying histories are the most complete to date covering, as they do, every phase of activities on this Base during the month of December.
Slowly but surely the 468th Bombardment Group and the 25th Air Service Group are combining their functions, as outlined in the 20th Bomber Command Memo 20-5. Lt. Col. R. A. Gardner, Base Ground Executive and Commanding Officer of the 25th Air Service Group, has moved his office in with Lt. Col. James V. Edmundson, Base Commander and Commanding Officer of the 468th Bombardment Group. The further efficiency and easy exchange of information and problems have already been noted by this move.
Perhaps the most outstanding administrative innovation was the establishment of a Base Air Inspector's Office with Officers assigned, as primary duties, to Technical, Tactical and Administrative Inspections. Also established was a Mess Supervisor's Office with the purpose of raising the standard of all mess conditions and in this regard making this the best in the Command. Further, and in compliance with AAF Regulation No. 20-49, Headquarters, AAF, Washington, 18 November 1944, an office was set up for a Coordination and Compliance Officer to ensure adequate inspection of all functions and equipment, follow-up and filing of reports. All of this will lend for better organization and Base efficiency.
